The SafeBlood PlasmaDerm WD™ Procedure has been used in various wound care settings dating back to 2000. Our retrospective data demonstrates the efficacy of PlasmaDerm WD™. Participating physicians have experienced in the treatment of: diabetic ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, pressure ulcers and surgical dehiscence, an improvement in granulation and epithelial tissue formation and replacement.
The SafeBlood PlasmaDerm WD™ Procedure is based in part on Dr, David R. Knighton’s studies of Autologous Platelet-Derived Wound Healing Factors (PDWHF) to investigate the premise of using the healing components of a patient’s own blood. Performing a Hemocyte Autograph allows a patient’s body to use the patient’s own tissues to fill and seal an injury. In a Hemocyte Autograph, missing or damaged structures are replaced with autologous tissues primarily consisting of platelets, white cells, and plasma. In a normal wound, injury causes bleeding, which starts the healing process. Platelets, among other cells, rush to the site of injury to stop the bleeding. In addition, this process also releases factors that promote repair of the trauma.
Each patient is different and requires a unique sequence of repair mechanisms. When planning treatment for a specific patient’s needs, PlasmaDerm WD™ acts primarily as a facilitator of the natural healing process and, in non-healing patients, stimulates the body’s own efforts to heal. The SafeBlood PlasmaDerm WD™ Procedure is a cost effective, accessible, physician-directed, and expedient therapy. In most cases, the procedure is performed only once, followed by weekly dressing changes. SafeBlood Technologies has combined a convenient method of concentrating platelets with a collagen-based flowable dressing to induce and enhance the functioning of these Haemostatic Factors and to fill and seal the wound.
